About Bryant/Horton Sloan/Falin, Scott County, VA
Through my research, I have tried to list correct information, but I am sure
there are many errors/mistakes. If you find anything that is incorrect or have
additional information/comments, I would very much appreciate your input.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I grew up mostly in Clinchport, Virginia.
My parents were the late Ernest and Dorothy Bryant and I was the oldest of five
children. Ricky, the youngest, was killed in an automobile accident when he
was 18 years old, which was a devastating time and sadness we never got over.
Even though, I moved from Clinchport shortly after high school, I still
consider it home and sorry that I have not been able to spend more of my adult
life there. I remember how impressed I was when I first visited Washington, DC
during a high school senior class trip. It became my dream to make
Washington my home, but I never thought I would have enough courage to leave my
family and friends. A year after graduation, I moved to the Washington, DC
area and started working for the US Government at the Pentagon. I married and
my husband's job with the US Department of State took us around the world. Our
only child, Stacie, was born in Rome, Italy and grew up mostly overseas.
However, during the summer months, we always return to my roots and spent
time with family and friends. In all the places that I have lived: Italy,
Indonesia, Africa, and Venezuela, there is no place that that I love and
appreciate more than the Southwestern part of Virginia.
I am appreciative of my early childhood days and what Scott County afforted
me. I feel that the river gave me the ability to flow; the mountains the
ability to be strong; God and family the ability to love and accept what I have
been faced with and strength to endure.
My hope is that this information will be helpful and of interest to anyone
connected to the Bryant/Horton Sloan/Falin families of Scott County, VA.
